Krug 1928 World Record

Krug 1928 sets world record price in Hong Kong.
Last weekend a bottle of Krug 1928 broke the world record for the most expensive bottle of wine sold at auction – US$21,200 – this record was previously held by a 6 litre bottle (methuselah) of Louis Roederer Cristal Brut 1990 which sold in December 2005 for US$17,625 in the US. At a Sotheby’s auction in London, May 2004 a bottle of Krug signed by Henri and Remi Krug sold for US$2,800.

My favourite Champagne expert MW Serena Sutcliffe rates Krug 1928 as ‘one of the best Champagnes ever made’ – tasting it in 1999 she described this Champagne as “Medium gold colour. Fabulous bouquet of vanilla ice (remember the first fermentation in wood). Deep dimensioned with bready notes, “sweet” and ripe on the palate, soft yet big,”
