Founded in 1995 by Edouard Cointreau, The Gourmand World Cookbook and Winebook Awards are considered to be the “oscars” of the culinary book world. The prizes are awarded in 36 categories for cooking and 14 for wine. The primary objectives of the Awards are:

  • To reward and honour those who “cook with words”.
  • To help readers find the best out of the 26000 food and wine books produced every year.
  • To help book retailers find the best 50 food and wine books of the year
  • To increase knowledge and respect for food and wine culture around the world.

In 2012 a total of 162 countries entered the Gourmand Awards and the shortlist for the Gourmand Awards 2012 comprises 71 countries. Winners from 37 countries will be called to the stage on Tuesday March 6th in Paris, with only 5 countries winning three awards or more:
