What is Global Champagne Day?
Ever wondered why long before modern inventions such as the telephone, the radio and the TV, let alone the internet superhighway and twitter, the bubbles of champagne were somehow already famous literally around the civilised world?
On Friday 28 October, 2011 its time to find out! On this special day champagne enthusiasts all over the world will gather in ‘virtual appreciation’ of champagne to celebrate the 2nd Global Champagne Day and to share their champagne stories online in places like facebook and twitter.
For twenty four hours the social media airwaves will be flooded with comments, stories and videos about the world’s most famous fine wine. If you would like to participate or even just to listen in on this global online celebration conversation, be sure to follow the #champagneday #champagneday11 and #globalchampagneday subject hash tags or check the twitter stream for @champagnejayne and @vintuba on 28th October 2011. Along the way you’ll discover some fascinating snippets from the secret history of champagne…
Champagne can only come from Champagne
Although not all sparkling wines can claim to be champagne, it is equally true that not all champagne is just one style of wine. The wines of Champagne are as varied as the different Champagne Houses, the cooperatives, the growers and indeed the region of Champagne itself, and this is half the pleasure of getting together with friends or colleagues to try different styles of champagne – and now with the 2nd annual Global Champagne Day you have the perfect excuse!
Celebrating Sunrise on Champagne Day
With champagne corks poised to pop at champagne events all over the globe, a select group of Australian lifestyle media will gather in Sydney to officially start the global celebrations, raising their glasses to toast ‘Sunrise On Global Champagne Day’ as the sun gets ready to set in Australian skies.
Hosted in Sydney by Australian Global #ChampagneDay Ambassador and Australia’s leading consumer champagne expert Jayne Powell (aka Champagne Jayne), author of “Champagnes – Behind The Bubbles”, ‘Sunrise On Champagne Day’ will feature twitter tastings of eight exclusive champagnes – from artisan grower to prestige cuvee.
“I love champagne and I can’t wait to be part of Global Champagne Day in Australia as our local Ambassador. I’m so looking forward to raising a glass with my fellow champagne loving friends – in person and online – to toast the most fascinating, bliss of bubbles there is – champagne,” said Champagne Jayne.
Champagne Social Media
Guests at ‘Sunrise On Champagne Day’ will also be entertained with snippets about the secret history of champagne drawn from Jayne’s new book “Champagnes – Behind The Bubbles” and be amongst the first in Australia to taste the new prestige cuvee Armand de Brignac, voted the no 1 champagne in the world by Fine Champagne Magazine.
This invitation only Champagne 2.0 social media experience will be live tweeted and face booked around the globe and feature celebrity guests.
Champagne Jayne will be joined onstage by special guest Ed Carr, Australia’s most awarded sparkling winemaker (creator of Arras) and Gourmet Traveller WINE magazine Winemaker of the Year 2011.
Hosted in the heart of Sydney at The American Club, with magnificent views over the world’s most famous harbour, The Australian Global Champagne Day event will run from 3pm – 5pm, just before the sun rises on the other side of the planet for Global Champagne Day celebrations. Articles and video interviews with the champagne makers featured in this celebration tasting will be posted LIVE during the event.
