Blanc de Blancs Bling
JayZ’s new $800 Champagne Cuvee from Armand De Brignac. Remember when rap star Jay-Z dissed his favourite Champagne Cristal (following supposedly disparaging racial comments by then head of Louis Roederer Champagne house Jean Claude Rouzaud) in favour of new bling brand Armand de Brignac? Well on the back of this association, Champagne Cattier – a small Champagne house based in Chigny-les-Roses who produce Armand de Brignac on behalf of New York City based Sovereign Brands, is launching the third cuvee in the range @ $800 a bottle.
Its a non-vintage Blanc de Blancs made from Chardonnay grown in premier cru and grand cru vineyards in the Montagne de Reims. The bottle is coated in antique silver and includes four hand-polished pewter labels. Armand de Brignac shot to fame in 2006, when Jay-Z featured a bottle of the Brut Gold in the music video for his single ‘Show Me What You Got’. This new Champagne is described by Decanter Magazine as ‘A feminine, perfumed nose of almonds and flowers. Finely balanced and poised on the palate with a steely minerality and alluring floral notes. Good persistence of flavour on the finish. Classy stuff.”
